About the ITU Duathlon World Championship

The event will feature close to 1,000 age group competitors – including close to 400 on Team USA – racing on a 10k run, 40k bike, 5k run course in and around Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

The location offers a one-of-a-kind venue for the World Championship, presenting a challenging course that will take the athletes around the same track where NASCAR's greatest drivers have raced for the finish line.

Transition will be located on the speedway infield adjacent to the car garages. Portions of the bike course will take place on the speedway track, but the majority of the run and bike will be on the neighboring roads outside the speedway.

The track itself is a smoothly paved, 1.5-mile loop that will provide a unique technical aspect to the race unparalleled by any road course in the country. The race will finish along pit row.

Course maps, as well as event schedules and registration information, are now available at the ITU Duathlon Worlds website.

This marks the second time in the last three years the United States has hosted an International Triathlon Union World Championship. The ITU Long Distance Duathlon World Championship was held in Richmond, Va., in 2007.

About Concord
Concord is one of the most dynamic visitor destinations in the United States. Concord is located a few minutes from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Its central North Carolina location places it in the picturesque Piedmont area, halfway between the Atlantic coastline's famed Outer Banks and the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains.

Travelers to the area tour North Carolina's celebrated vineyards, explore authentic southern plantations, kayak along the intercoastal waterways, experience the thrilling channels at the new U.S. National Whitewater Park, tee off at the world's finest golf courses, and of course, experience world renowned southern hospitality. Concord is also the home to legendary Lowe's Motor Speedway. This speedway draws a half million visitors each year for major NASCAR events.

About the ITU
The International Triathlon Union, headquartered in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, was formed in 1989, and organizes official world championship series races for the sport of triathlon (swim-bike-run races). It was formed in part to give the growing sport of triathlon an official organizing body and in part to advocate for the entry of triathlon into the Olympic games.
